The Ethiopian World Federation (W.W.F.)

http://ethiopianworldfederation1937.com /http://www.ethiopianworldfederation.com
The Ethiopian World Federation, Incorporated, is a not-for-profit membership organization, incorporated in the State of New York, United States of America and registered by the Internal Revenue Services as a 501 (C) 4 (civic- league, social welfare) making the organization, tax exempt.
This organization came into being on August 25, 1937 in New York City, through the efforts of Black Americans who sent a delegation consisting of three prominent Harlem figures, all leaders of the black organization known as the United Aid for Ethiopia. Reverend William Lloyd Imes, Pastor of the prestigious St. James Presbyterian Church, Philip M. Savory of the Victory Insurance Company and co-owner of the New York Amsterdam News, and Mr. Cyril M Philp, secretary of the United Aid, sailed to England in the summer of 1936 to speak with H.I.M. Emperor Haile Selassie I concerning financial matters.
In response, the Emperor empowered his personal physician Dr. Malaku E. Bayen to establish the Ethiopian World Federation, Incorporated with the purpose set out in the following preamble: “We the Black People of the World, in order to effect Unity, Solidarity, Liberty, Freedom and self-determination, to secure Justice and maintain the Integrity of Ethiopia, which is our divine heritage, do hereby establish and ordain this constitution for The Ethiopian World Federation, Incorporated”.
The Constitution and By-Laws is, as one would expect, a very careful and businesslike document, having articles which deal with aims and objects, membership, international officers and their duties, conventions, elections, meetings, local units, their establishment and organization, committees, impeachment of officers, units, benefits, amendments, order of business, etc.
As a direct result of the support Ethiopia received from black people in the West during the Italian invasion 1935-1941, the Emperor granted five (5) Gashas of land in Shashamanne, Ethiopia, to The E.W.F. Inc., for Ethiopian people in the Diaspora who desired to return to the motherland. In 1970, H.I.M. Emperor Haile Selassie I personally appointed Ras. Marcus Selassie (Solomon Wolfe), Director of The E.W.F. Charter # 43 in Jamaica, administrator of the “Land Grant”. The major goal of The Ethiopian World Federation, Incorporated is inherent in the name of the organization. The Ethiopian (meaning all Black people), World (everywhere), Federation (autonomous groups working together), desiring to do all we can to restore the continent of Ethiopia-Africa to her former state of complete independence and self-reliance thereby effecting a social and economic betterment of the race everywhere..

The Malcolm X Grassroots Movement

http://mxgm.org
The Malcolm X Grassroots Movement is an organization of Afrikans in America/New Afrikans whose mission is to defend the human rights of our people and promote self-determination in our community. We understand that the collective institutions of white-supremacy, patriarchy and capitalism have been at the root of our people's oppression. We understand that without community control and without the power to determine our own lives, we will continue to fall victim to genocide. Therefore, we seek to heighten our consciousness about self-determination as a human right and a solution to our colonization. While organizing around our principles of unity, we are building a network of Black/New Afrikan activists and organizers committed to the protracted struggle for the liberation of the New Afrikan Nation - By Any Means Necessary!
OUR 6 CORE PRINCIPLES
  1. We actively support and struggle to defend the Human Rights of Afrikan people in the United States and around the world.

  2. We demand Reparations, or repayment for four hundred years of slavery, colonialism and oppression of our people in the United States of America.

  3. We promote Self-Determination and must organize for the liberation of the Afrikan nation, held colonized in the United States.

  4. We oppose Genocide or the acceptable and calculated killing of our people by individuals, institutions and organizations of the United States government, through lynching, disease, police terror and any other means.

  5. We demand the release of activists who have been imprisoned because of their commitment in seeking human rights and liberation for our people. These brothers and sisters are Political Prisoners and should be recognized as such.

  6. We actively struggle to End Sexist Oppression. We oppose any form of oppression that limits women from reaching their fullest potential, as manifested in our cultural, economic, political and social institutions, practices and beliefs. We actively oppose those beliefs, ideas, terms, etc. that limit the human worth of women and contribute to violations against women.

Little Kids Rock

http://littlekidsrock.org
Little Kids Rock knows that music is a critical component of a first-rate education. We inspire children to express themselves through music, building the creativity, confidence, and self-esteem that are critical to success in school and beyond. We accomplish this by:
  • Pioneering innovative teaching methods that are rooted in children’s knowledge of popular music forms such as rock, rap, blues, hip-hop etc.
  • Preparing practitioners such as teachers and youth workers to offer classes utilizing our methods and materials.
  • Providing free musical instruments and trained instructors to children, especially to those children who do not receive music education.

The vision

Music is a critical component of a first-rate education. Children who know the joys of expressing themselves creatively build confidence and self-esteem, and are less likely to channel their energy into destructive outlets. These benefits spill over into all of the other academic subjects. Unfortunately, many elementary schools have been stripped of their music programs. These cuts have had a disproportionately large impact on children from low-income backgrounds. Our programming restores music to its rightful place in the academic lives of the kids in our public schools.
In 1996, an elementary school teacher, David Wish, grew frustrated with the lack of funding for music education at his school site. He offered an after-school guitar class to some students at his school. What began in as an informal project led by a single school teacher and a handful of volunteers has catapulted into a nationally recognized not-for-profit organization that has served thousands of students in seven states. With the support of Honorary Board Members Bonnie Raitt, Paul Simon, BB King, Les Paul, Jason Newsted and a host of celebrated friends in the music industry, Little Kids Rock is poised to significantly extend its reach in the United States.

Palestinian BDS National Committee

http://www.bdsmovement.net
BDSMovement.net is born out of the need to offer all those interested and active in the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement a shared space for information, analysis, exchange of ideas and experiences. This website is overseen by the steering committee of the Palestinian BDS National Committee and has been adopted as a tool of the ICNP (International Coordinating Network on Palestine) to support efforts of networking and coordination.
Since the Unified Palestinian call for BDS, launched in July 2005, BDS initiatives have been multiplying all over the world. Building and strengthening a global BDS movement has become a core aim for many involved in today’s solidarity work for Palestine. As well as the growth of diverse actions on the ground, an increasing number of websites are taking up the issue. This site aims to give an overview of the Palestinian calls for BDS, the myriad local initiatives and resources online, related background information and analysis to inform and guide visitors and activists.
The site is updated by a range of Palestinian and global BDS activists and is a continual work in progress. As the movement develops, new interactive tools and spaces will be added. The only editorial policy we follow is adherence to the Unified PAlestinian Call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions issued on July 9, 2007.

Global Action Foundation

GAF Brief: Cultivating community success for victims of debilitating civil wars
http://www.goact.org/

Global Action Foundation believes that victims of debilitating civil wars will fully recover when they have built sustainable, supportive communities in regions where countless atrocities were carried out. These resurgent communities can only succeed when there is access to affordable health care and sustainable businesses have been developed.

In Sierra Leone, we are putting our philosophy to action: Amputated civilians seek health at our primary care clinic. Global Action Foundation delivers free, high-quality health care at the Kono Amputee Clinic ("Kono Clinic"), located six hours east of Freetown approaching the Guinean border. Positive health supports this community’s focus to work, but opportunities are scarce. We believe palm kernel farms can harness fertile land to benefit many communities. Amputated civilians can work to support their families. Their work produces a link to local economies and profits that circulate to develop this model in similar communities.

Sierra Leone’s amputated civilian community is a budding example of how globally disempowered communities can arise from debilitating civil wars. This community views agriculture as their catalytic social enterprise. Other communities may want and need different options. We plan to demonstrate success in Sierra Leone and build upon its success in other nations, thereby cultivating community success.

Institute of Development & Education For Africa, Inc.

http://www.africanidea.org/mission.html
The Institute of Development and Education for Africa (IDEA), Inc. is a non-profit public benefit corporation registered under Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal revenue Code and is dedicated to the promotion and enhancement of development and education in Africa. IDEA will study the level of African countries’ educational development; will create venue for African scholars to contribute theoretical and empirical studies on development and education in various inter-related and interdependent areas; will serve as conduit between Africa and North America, particularly the United States, in the promotion of technical assistance to the continent and providing scholarship for outstanding and eligible African students; will organize conferences and symposia on development and education in the United States and in Africa. In addition to studying and reporting on the conditions of education in Africa, IDEA will design and develop curricula for schools and higher institutions of learning, and also furnish an educational forum via its quarterly periodical, Africana Forum. The periodical will feature pertinent, selective, and up-to-date issues on development and education.
The Goals of IDEA:
  • Promote ideas of development and education for the Continent of Africa across the board, and systematically study the prerequisites and preconditions for meaningful agendas on development education that are readily available for implementation.
  • Campaign against illiteracy and backwardness, both in the cultural milieu and economic realm, so as to accelerate the development march of African countries in the 21st century.
  • Encourage African nations to prioritize educational development in an effort to enhance Human Development Index (HDI) and Physical Quality of Life Index (PQLI).
  • Encourage African nations to facilitate good governance and the culture of democracy, and inevitably permit the development of market forces with a human face.
  • Appeal to the relatively developed nations or potential donors to accelerate their investment in Africa in an effort to promote genuine economic development; to incorporate in their economic policies the indiscriminate Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Africa.
  • Diagnose the real problems encountered by African countries in their inability to realize a development and education agenda that can overhaul their respective national economies. Problems must be defined clearly as in the following: a) falling commodity prices; b) declining terms of trade; c) debt and debt servicing burden; d) high interest rates; e) volatile exchange rate; and f) protectionism against Africa’s exports.
  • Formulate development and educational policies and strategies [including designing curriculum for schools and higher institutions of learning as well as political economy analysis on the state of development] for Africa in general and specific countries in particular, based on the feedback and RD collected and studied empirically.
  • Solicit funds and services from foundations, organizations, governments, and philanthropists for fulfilling the goals of IDEA.
  • On top of the above important goals, IDEA will provide services to African and Africanist scholars by furnishing contractual agreements pertaining to development strategies, educational curricula, writing theses and dissertations, and research as well as online tutorial for interested individuals.
