Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel

Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel

  Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel

First came the emancipation, then came energy and power, and now come Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, the new album by international superstar Mariah Carey, scheduled to arrive on August 25th. The first new single pick from Memoirsis "Obsessed," which blasts out to radio today, Tuesday, June 16th. The video for "Obsessed" will be directed by Brett Ratner. "Obsessed" was written and produced by Mariah, The-Dream and Tricky Stewart, who are responsible for the majority of tracks on the new album. Memoirs was executive-produced by Antonio "L.A." Reid.

Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel , the 12th studio album of Mariah's career, is the eagerly anticipated follow-up to her RIAA platinum-selling album E=MC² (released April 15, 2008), and her worldwide 10 million selling The Emancipation Of Mimi (released April 12, 2005). Both were Soundscan #1 debut albums that made chart history for Mariah in the U.S. and numerous territories around the globe.

The Emancipation Of Mimi generated three Grammy awards (including Best Contemporary R&B Album), two #1 singles, and countless more honors during its 18-month chart stay. The album debuted at #1 on first week sales of 404,000 copies, Mariah's highest first week sales total (until E=MC²;). Soundscan's biggest-selling album of 2005, Mimi featured "We Belong Together" (Grammy winner for Best Female R&B Vocal and Best R&B Song) and "Don't Forget About Us," Mariah's 16th and 17th #1 career singles respectively. They tied one of the most enduring chart records in Billboard Hot 100 history, Elvis Presley's 17 #1's.

Three years later, E=MC²; debuted at #1 on first week sales of 463,000 copies, which now stands as the highest first week sales total of Mariah's career. The album's success brought total sales of Mariah's albums, singles and videos to more than 160 million worldwide, distancing her even further from the pack as the top-selling female recording artist in history.

E=MC² spun off four singles: "Touch My Body," "Bye Bye," "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time," and "I Stay In Love." Of these, "Touch My Body" made history when it became Mariah's 18th #1 Hot 100 hit, thus surpassing Elvis Presley. "Touch My Body"'s two weeks at the top also marked Mariah's 78th and 79th cumulative career weeks at #1, which tied Elvis' long-standing all-time high of 79 weeks at #1, as calculated in Billboard.com. At the same time, Mariah is now positioned as the only active recording artist in the 50 years of the Hot 100 (which began in 1958) with the potential to surpass the Beatles' all-time high of 20 #1 hits.

Loso's Way

 Fabolous  - Loso's Way

Loso's Way

After nearly one full decade at the absolute pinnacle of the rap game, Desert Storm/Def Jam artist Fabolous will deliver the most personal, confessional album of his career when LOSO'S WAY arrives in the physical and digital marketplace on June 30th. The new album provides an intimate glimpse into the rise of the Brooklyn-born rapper, one of today's most important and controversial players, exploring the perils that come with managing the transition from a street life to one of legitimacy.
Underscoring the autobiographical portrait of LOSO'S WAY is Fab's first long-form video project, a 30-minute film to be released in conjunction with the album. Several trailers from the film have been released, creating a huge buzz for the project online. Known for keeping his personal life separate from his rap career, Fab was inspired by Carlito's Way (Al Pacino), as he told SOHH.com recently: "I think we had some similarities. Carlito was a street dude trying to make the transition from the streets to something better. That's where I felt I was at....transitioning from the streets to a hip-hop artist."
In advance of LOSO'S WAY, two singles are building simultaneously at radio: "Throw It In The Bag" featuring fellow Def Jam artist The-Dream (produced by Tricky Stewart) was #1 Most-Added at Rhythm formats; and "It's My Time" featuring brand new Def Jam artist Jeremih (produced by the Runners) is currently exploding at the Urban format.
Loso's Way is Fabolous' fifth studio album, to be released in June 30, 2009.
The album will have a similar concept to Jay-Z's American Gangster album as the album is supposed to be based around a concept of a film. Fabolous has stated that it will be based on the 1993 film Carlito's Way. In an interview with MTV, Fab said that he's not planning on many guests for the album. The album was initially thought to be titled Working Hard, Playing Harder.[5] Confirmed guests include Keys, Red Cafe, Paul Cain, Jay-Z, Marsha Ambrosious, Lil Wayne, Trey Songz, The-Dream, Ne-Yo, Kobe, Jeremih, Ryan Leslie & Keri Hilson.
The first official single is "Throw It In the Bag", featuring The-Dream. The second single is "My Time" featuring Jeremih.

Music helps children to grow with open minds and open hearts and this is my message. This record represents my daily family life and is inspired by my three-year-old daughter Judah and baby Gideon. It was a joy to make and opened up new avenues in my creativity. Family Time is for all families and especially the world family.

“Expert and well-reasoned commentary on the justice system. . . . His writings are dangerous.”—The Village Voice
In Jailhouse Lawyers, award-winning journalist and death-row inmate Mumia Abu-Jamal presents the stories and reflections of fellow prisoners-turned-advocates who have learned to use the court system to represent other prisoners—many uneducated or illiterate—and, in some cases, to win their freedom. In Abu-Jamal’s words, “This is the story of law learned, not in the ivory towers of multi-billion-dollar endowed universities [but] in the bowels of the slave-ship, in the dank dungeons of America.”
Includes an introduction by Angela Y. Davis.
Mumia Abu-Jamal’s books include Live From Death Row and Death Blossoms.
Mumia Abu-Jamal is an award-winning journalist and former Black Panther Party member, whose books include Live From Death Row, Death Blossoms: Reflections from a Prisoner of Conscience, All Things Censored, We Want Freedom: A Life in the Black Panther Party and Faith of Our Fathers. He has been living on death row in a Pennsylvania prison since 1982.
Mumia writes:

"This is the story of law learned, not in the ivory towers of multi-billion-dollar endowed universities but in the bowels of the slave-ship, in the hidden, dank dungeons of America .. It is law learned in a stew of bitterness, under the constant threat of violence, in places where millions of people live, buy millions of others wish to ignore or forget"

Putumayo Presents: African Reggae

Putumayo Presents: African Reggae

Putumayo World Music was established in 1993 to introduce people to the music of the world's cultures. The label grew out of Putumayo clothing company, founded by Dan Storper in 1975 and sold in 1997. Co-founder Michael Kraus joined Dan to launch Putumayo World Music and establish a non-traditional sales division. Putumayo World Music has become known primarily for its upbeat and melodic compilations of great international music characterized by the company's motto: "guaranteed to make you feel good!" Putumayo's CD covers feature the distinctive art of Nicola Heindl, whose colorful, folkloric style represents one of Putumayo's goals: to connect the traditional to the contemporary. By combining appealing music and visuals with creative retail marketing, Putumayo has developed a unique brand identity - a rarity in today's artist-based music industry.

African Reggae is, in part, an homage to Bob Marley's powerful impact on African music, as February 6th will mark his 64th birthday. African Reggae features selections by outstanding African musicians who have built upon Jamaica's "golden age of reggae" in the 1960s and 1970s by weaving together traditional and modern sounds into a vibrant musical fabric. When reggae evolved from ska after Jamaica's independence in 1963, it quickly dropped its seeds in Africa, the true land of its origin. Pioneering Jamaican artists Desmond Dekker and Jimmy Cliff were African favorites in the 1960s, followed in the next decade by Bob Marley, whose songs of African unity and liberation and concerts in Africa inspired all of the artists on this CD. African Reggae vividly illustrates how African artists have kept the spirit of roots reggae alive from Cape Town to Cape Verde. This collection includes tracks ranging from the hit "Magno Mako" by Ivoirian Ismael Isaac to the melting pot brew of Burkina Faso's Bingui Jaa Jammy and from the Rastafarian-influenced sounds of Ghana's Kwame Bediako to the mystical kora-laced incantations of Guinea Bissau's Nino Galissa. A portion of the proceeds from African Reggae will be donated to HOPEHIV in support of their efforts to strengthen the capacity of African children who have been orphaned or made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS. Since it began in April 1993, Putumayo World Music has contributed more than $1 million to an array of international charities working in areas where the music on its CDs originates.

Bob Marleys' Brother Richie Booker Shines The Light

RICHIE BOOKER SHINES THE LIGHT

Shine the Light

The reggae royalty pedigreed of the Marley family shines brightly on Richie Booker’s debut CD, Shine the Light, in stores Jan. 27th from SKD Urban (Distributed by KOCH Entertainment).
Like his brother Bob Marley, Booker is an inspirational singer/songwriter with the talent to create music that transcends all boundaries and unites kindred souls. On Shine the Light, Booker has joined the passions of his Jamaican roots with alternative, universal influences to spread a “positive message to the people.”  Says Booker, “If I only touch one person with my music, that will be success for me.  The world is something people have the power to change and my music is my instrument for change.”
Shine the Light – which Booker wrote, produced and performed, spending a year in the recording studio – ranges musically from alternative and pop to dance. Each song’s message is set upon a backdrop of musical texture that demonstrates Booker’s diverse “mixological” style.
Highlights on the CD – described by Booker as “alternative reggae” – include the title track “Shine the Light,” a wistful ballad, and the upbeat “Station Revelation,” both reflecting Booker’s reggae roots; “Vampire,” a hypnotic cut with an environmental message; “Wow,” a high-powered club mix; and “Selling Sex” and “Medicine Man,” both upbeat rock songs reflecting a wide range of influences such as Bob Marley, U2, and Led Zeppelin.
Booker was introduced to the music of the ‘70s as a child growing up in Wilmington, Del., and spent his later years in south Florida.  He credits his mother, Cedella Marley Booker, as the spiritual root of the Marley family with her teachings of Jah Love. In addition to singing and acting (Palmetto with Woody Harrelson), Booker produces the annual Bob Marley Caribbean Festival, where for the past 15 years, he and his family have brought together talented musicians as a fundraiser to help feed and shelter the homeless.
